31 Days of October... Water Marbling Tips and Tricks!

Hey everybody:) Today we have a water marbling video for y'all and some of our tips and tricks to help with marbling.

Tips and Tricks:

1. Use room temperature filtered water. This helps with the polish not drying out while you w.m. Too cold(water)- fast dry..... too hot (water)- fast dry

2. I use tape around my nails to help with clean up, some people use glue but I find this too long of a process and messy. Speaking of tape- I tape around the top of my finger and across the bottom of my nail by the cuticle. When cutting the tape away I cut the back(bottom side of my finger) and pull the tape off around my nail.

3. Try a drop of nail polish remover in the water (I use pure acetone), I know y'all are like "WHAT" but it helps with the spreading of the polish. Drop the remover in and mix up the water.

4. NOT ALL POLISH IS CREATED EQUAL! What I mean is that start off with cream polishes (cheap ones!) Don't try to use shimmers, mattes, holos, glitters, or anything other than cream polish to start. This way you can practice and get the hang of how to w.m. After you get the hang of it try other polishes some are really awesome to w.m. with.

5. When first making your bulls-eye make sure the polish reaches all the way to the edge of the cup/votive, this helps by not dragging all your polish to one side.

6. Wipe your toothpick off after each drag through the w.m. You can see this in the video below.

7. Make sure there isn't a breeze, polish dries quickly sometimes, you don't want to help it along!

8. Sometimes you get those bubbles, well sometimes they are just there but if you go straight into the water (not holding your nail at an angle, that helps) and not going to fast into the water (slow but not slug speed and steady).

9. Try different polish! Some polishes don't like each other and won't w.m. well together so sometimes you have to try 3 whites to get the one that will w.m. with what you got going on.

10. When dragging and making your design don't waste time! Polish waits for no one and will dry whether you like it or not.

11. Have a paper towel under your cup/votive. W.M. is messy business, this helps with water and wiping off the toothpick.

12. A bit of cuticle oil on the toothpick will help with gliding through polish.

13. Practice with the colors you want to use before starting, to make sure they spread together properly and make the design you want.

14. Use a base color like white or something that will help give the w.m. a good foundation.

15. When you have pulled your finished w.m. out of the water and see the awesomeness take the tape off and then take another toothpick around the cuticle too help with clean up around the cuticle.

16. Clean up with non acetone, it usually won't make the polish run and make a bigger mess. It means a little more work but no running!

17. I did address bubbles up at the top, here is another thing I do sometimes. When I pull out my finished w.m. and see bubbles I take a pin and pop them and then take a toothpick and apply a drop of polish that is missing. Sometimes it is in the middle of two colors and you can't make it perfect but this will help if you can't stand those pesky bubbles.

18.  Make sure you have everything you need before you start. Cup/ votive, paper towel, toothpick, orange stick to clean up with, polish (open tops for quick use), room temp. water, polish remover, tape or glue, scissors, a few extra toothpicks (for clean up around cuticle and bubbles), a piece of paper to stick the used tape to after you cut it off, TIME: make sure you have the time to do all your nails!

19. Making sure the polish is new and not old- this helps with spreading. Old polish can get nasty and new polish is smooth and easy to use.

20. Did you know that you can add dots on top of your w.m. YES! This will add a extra color or a little punch to your mani. Sometime you can rid yourself of those bubbles adding dots will cover them up.

21. Did you know you can move the cup/votive to get the w.m. the way you want! YES! Just use a gentle hand when turning the cup as to not mess up your finished w.m.

Okay now that you have some of our Tips and Tricks, here is an easy flower w.m. design video (this was the first design I learned how to do). For this w.m. I used Zoya Belinda, Thandie, Faby Black is Black, and China Glaze Fairy Dust(as a top coat). Good Luck and have fun water marbling!

Finished look with China Glaze Fairy Dust as a top coat.

We really hope this helps y'all! Just remember that you need to practice at water marbling to get the hang of doing it. Leave us any comments about what you have tried and know works or a question cause you might still need some help.

Happy Water Marbling Everyone!

Shocking pink with a dash of fairy dust!!

Hi all! I'm back again this time I am showing off Gelaze in Shocking Pink with Gelaze Fairy dust on top. I just want to mention I have used fairy dust alone (on my niece's nails) and it's beautiful!! Back to SP & FD combined. I thought SP would have been a bit more neon and I was a bit disappointed in the brightness (that's why I bought Pink Voltage and a few others). As a bubble gum pink it's a great color and I do like it I was just hoping for KA-POW in your face pink.

Overall I like this combo I even like Shocking Pink on it's own. It's just when I first put it on it wasn't as bright as I thought it was going to be. One more Gelaze to show you this week (on Friday) which I think is my favorite Gelaze. Have a great day everyone.

Here is my mani, I like to call it Halloween Fright House.

The next one is a glow in the dark mani that looks like slime starting to drip from my nails.

Last but not least is the Black Cat mani.

I hope you have a safe and happy Halloween! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of these manis and what you dressed up as and what is on your nails!

Thursday Special.....Fade into the Sunset

Hey everybody! Today I have a gradient mani for y'all:) I'm in love with these manis and love doing them for y'all:) For this mani I used all China Glaze .... Sun Worshiper, Pool Party, Flying Dragon, Frost Bite, and Fairy Dust on top. These are super easy to do they just take a little time...I will say blending is a must. Now I have seen people use a triangular make-up sponge to do gradient manis and they come out great, I guess I don't do that right cause it never works for me. I blend everything with a tiny sponge ( tiny!!), takes a little longer but it works for me:) Here are the great pictures!!!

So what do y'all think of all these gradient mani people are doing....are they worth the time or just really pretty to look at???

P.S. Have you entered our giveaway??? Here is the link....HERE:) *CLOSED*
Happy Polishing Everyone!

Fail Red White and Blue Splatter

Hey everyone!! This weeks manicures will be Red, White and Blue inspired since it's close to the 4th of July I wanted to show you a few different manicures! The manicure I did today looked better in my head ...I started with a base of FingerPaints Easel Come, Easel Go...I then got my straw and and spat the colors at my nails...I used KleanColor Metallic Blue and Red...and a random white I have. I then covered it with a bit of Sparkle (China Glaze Fairy Dust).

I was hoping for a bit more of something...not sure what but something!
How are you celebrating the 4th of July?

A little sprinkle of Fairy Dust!

Hey everyone a favorite combo of mine for the winter season is Zoya Freja (3 thin coats) topped with China Glaze Fairy Dust! I usually stamp this with metallic blue and white  snowflakes but today I was just in the mood for Freja with a sprinkling of Fairy Dust!

This really is a favorite combo of mine!

Do you have a favorite combo?

oh Caitlin!

Caitlin, Caitlin where oh where have you been (besides in my sister's stash!) I am over visiting Anne's polish >.> stash <.< . I was looking for a color for an idea that I had running in my head! Looked around for a minute and picked up Zoya's Caitlin! I knew Caitlin was it! First I put on my Reinforcement Labels for my tips! Second I painted the tips (2 thin coats...and looks like it could use a third). Caitlin is described as a Smoky purple-tinged medium gray.

This is the color of Caitlin!
Flash for sure makes her a little to bright....but I had to show you anyway because she is a beauty!

Again natural Caitlin...After I was done with step 2 I took the stickers off so I could clean up the lines a bit! Step 3 I re-did the reinforcement stickers so I could stamp over my tips with BM13 web design in KleanColor Metallic Fuschia. This turned out exactly as I saw it in my head!

Then I took it another step with the spider and looking back I think I should have gone with a different color spider but I thought this would look good!

And of course I added a spider on my thumb but he looks fine there...maybe because on my ring finger he looks HUGE! I'm not sure...but I like him on my thumb!
For my last step I should have listened to myself with ENOUGH IS ENOUGH Patricia! BUT nope I didn't and went ahead and put on a coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust...but it truly covers up the web design and just doesn't give this manicure any points.

I loved this manicure before Fairy Dust was put on it! It came out exactly as I wanted it to! It really does shock me to say this but Fairy Dust didn't improve this...it hurt it...maybe if I had done a base coat of Fairy Dust then started the French tip so FD was in the background it might have worked better!...C'est La Vie!!!

I hope everyone enjoyed this and all the other Halloween posts and are inspired for a Halloween party, Handing out candy, going to work or whatever you happen to have planned!

Take a look back with me!

Marble This!!!!!

Water Marble Away!!!!! This was one of those mani's I had to figure out how the hell it work for everybody else and not for me... but I got it, finally! I have looked in awe at other peoples water marbling skills for to long, it was time to take the bull by the horns!!! I did go online and did a little research before I started, watched a few you tube videos... guess what it helped:)
I am in this fall mood, I think its cause all the clothes at work have changed from summer to fall colors, but anyway I used the Zoya smoke and mirrors collection for this water marbling. I started off with Jana as a base color and then picked out three others... Dree, Jem and Cynthia.
Here is a picture of all of them:)

Water Marbling colors:)

So like I said before I had to do some research and found out you need to use some tape ... I said to myself tape, really??? But trust me, yes you need tape.  You put the tape around your cuticles, to keep down on the mess. Here is a picture of my nail taped up (btw I have already done almost all my nails in this picture so there is a little mess).

taped up

So I'm going to start off with showing you the candle votive I used ( instead of a cup) with the bulls eye of the polish.

this is one drop of each color in the center
like a bulls eye

And here is more color added.

this is color added three times each
As you can plainly see Bulls Eye!!! Now on a few of mine they were a little off, miss shaped but its still cool cause next you are going to stir the colors up.

ready for dipping

I stirred up the colors with a tooth pick. I never went to far out and always  wiped off the tooth pick with a paper napkin after each run through. Okay so you have your nail taped and the colors the way you want its time to put your nail right where you want it, turn the cup if need be. Nail facing to cup go right on top of the color and press down, have a extra stick to round up the extra polish before you remove your nail, so the polish doesn't mess up you design. And here are a few pictures of the finished water marbling look:)

I always like a little sparkle on top of just about all my polish, so I also added Fairy Dust by China Glaze. Here is a picture of the *sparkle*

I hope you polish friends love this as much as I do ♥ I know I'm going to have to do this about a million times more with all kinds of colors and maybe challenge myself with doing designs in the water... or maybe I'll just stick to this for a while:) If you have tried water marbling how did it work for you? If you haven't are you maybe thinking about it now???

Until next time, Happy Polishing everybody!
Love,
Anne

Top this!

Hi Ladies today I wanted to show you 4 different polishes that got brought up last week (I think) in the fb group Polish-aholics Anonymous! How these compare so I have for you (from index to pinkie) Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, China Glaze Wireless Holographic Top Coat, Sinful Colors Green Ocean and China Glaze Fairy Dust. (All pictures show 2 coats of each with NO topcoat, over Wet N' Wild black 1 coat) Before we go to far I'm super sorry for the dry skin I was using pure acetone the day of swatching v_v! SH HT (index) shows red to orange to green like a mini rainbow in flakies.
CG WHTC (middle/ free bird) is super awesome and it looks like I just have a black holo!
SC GO (ring) shows blue on the finger...I have tried this over a green and it still flashes BLUE! I love it ^_^ I won this from Amber at Rainbows & Sparkles last giveaway!
CG FD (pinkie) is a holographic glitter that I love using as a top coat over anything from a french tip, to a fade to pull it together...maybe that is why I have a back up bottle of this I love it so much I don't want to run out lol!

So I LOVE these top coats each for different reasons!

HT-rainbow flakies!

WHTC-puts a nice finish to my holo's without dulling them!

GO- I love blue and it's a flakie!

FD- makes a dull mani into sparkle fest!

Now for the close ups my skin is super dry in these but it shows the colors so well I couldn't leave it out *_* sorry!

Hidden TreasureGreen Ocean

Wireless Holographic Top CoatFairy Dust Last are a few pictures I took inside that I thought I would throw in for free (blurry so you can see the awesomesauce of these polishes (lol)!

So here they are...I also wanted to give you Ladies a chance to leave your blogs address down in the comments today (for this post only please) I enjoy looking and reading nail blogs so much that I will probably take your list and next Post I (me not Anne) put up a list of blogs there if you want (just let me know if it is ok if I share or I wont share it)!

So do any of you ladies own any of these toppers? What do you think of them? Enjoy the rest of this week ladies!
